Rainbow Circle AGM 2007
Family Fun Camp
Co-ordinator's Report

Family fun camp was fantastic.

The magic hat started with nothing and ended with over £300.

Although we had to share with some Pirates who had double booked without our knowledge, this turned into an opportunity to share information and invite new people to join us at RC. We also got the chance to party with them. Lots of new people came from t'other field and spent some time with us. Maybe we should pay the farmer less.

We started the camp with no food, as the food order didn't happen, and no money; yet we managed to feed everyone tastefully and abundantly.

The shop was successful and stopped people going into town as much. (Thanks Jon for making sure it was well stocked. Thanks Jack for cleaning out mice nests).

The children all seemed to get on really well and there were hardly any arguments between them. There were some really good, strong friendships forged at this camp between some of the younger children.

Kids on Trampoline

Dogs were welcomed and presented no problem at all – in fact, it was great to have them there.

Annette's garden (and bus) was a wonderful haven of peace for us as usual.(Thank you Annette)

There was less shouting and aggravation than at previous camps.

We used restorative justice to attempt to iron out a sticky problem, with some success.

The Big Lodge went up effortlessly, thanks to Mick.

The domes were put together pretty quickly too, thanks to George and site crew, and newcomers.

There was fun and laughter, creativity and sharing, wonderful evenings around the fire and beautiful people with which to share them.(Thanks to everyone)

We were treated with the rare sight of a moon bow.

We had some great workshops on offer, thanks to…the people who did the workshops….sorry I can't remember you all and didn't get to go to any due to being busy co-ordinating.

As fantastic as it was, there were lessons for us this year, and I think for Rainbow Circle as a whole.

Reputation, caring and community
I enjoyed the BGG – We worked hard again, for little reward, as many of us do.

I had fun and enjoyed my time there with many wonderful people. There were a few disappointments for us however, and I feel I should be honest about them.

The workshops that we did were worth a lot of money – the circle `or one or two strongly vocal people there' decided that our workshops should be purely magic hat with no suggested donation. As a consequence, what could have raised a lot of money for RC didn't. In fact, I felt quite insulted at the little amount people put in the hat, despite being told by many people here that it was the best workshop they had ever been to.

On Sunday, we planned a RC gathering to try to address the reputation that RC has with some ex-members. Nearly all of the `crew' left site at the time it was arranged and there was little there for the people who did come along despite their misgivings.

Lastly I'd like to express my gratitude.
Thank you for …….

the magic kitchen cleaners, veg prep'ers and washer uppers who came running whenever we shouted `kitchen energy needed!'

the overnight welcome dome keepers and fire keepers.

Helen and Terry for, the earth oven and making sure we could cook on the fire.

George and the site crew for getting the structures up with little fuss.

Lauren, for holding the unruly teenager energy for the week.

Gretel for the lovely card and choccies. What a treat!

Jon for his quiet background support although he wasn't there for the whole camp.

Bethany, Natalia and Jodie for keeping the fire going in the rain.

Thanks especially to Gretel, Annette, Drusilla, Martin and Jackie for keeping us laughing, making us tea and for being there for us.

Please excuse me if I have neglected to thank anyone or mention other fantastic things that happened. I'm grateful to all who helped to make it a nice camp this year.

Bright blessings

Lisa and Max
